A Journey of Sound and Culture from China to Iran

The Road to Music is an exploration-based project that tells the story of music not only as an art form, but also as a culture, history, and human story.
This journey follows the traces of sound, tradition, and human stories starting from the East.

The project follows a route from China to Iran, aiming to document the musical perspectives, vocal traditions, and lifestyles of different regions through on-site observation.

🌏 Beginning: China

The journey began in Beijing, one of China’s historical and cultural centers.
Later, in the city of Xi’an, the influence of the Silk Road on music, traditional instruments, and ancient vocal traditions were explored.

During the China chapter:

• Traditional Chinese music
• Local instruments
• Street musicians
• Cultural rhythms

were observed directly within their cultural environment.

🏜️ Moving West: Kuqa – Aksu – Urumqi

In the western Chinese cities of Kuqa, Aksu, and Urumqi, traces of Turkic and Central Asian musical cultures were researched.
In these regions, music is not only an art form but also the voice of identity and tradition.

At these stops:

• Uyghur musical traditions
• Folk melodies
• Local rhythms
• Cultural identity

🇮🇷 Iran: Tehran – Kashan – Isfahan

The next destination of the journey was Iran.
In the cities of Tehran, Kashan, and Isfahan, the deep-rooted traditions of Iranian music, vocal techniques, and historical musical perspectives were explored.

During the Iran chapter:

• Classical Persian music
• Traditional modal systems
• Vocal styles
• The acoustics of historical spaces

became the focus.

🎤 Beyond Music: People and Stories

The Road to Music is not only about music.
This project explores:

• People’s stories
• Ways of life
• Cultural values
• The relationship people build with sound

Every city, every person, and every voice reveals a different face of music.
